Invasive Species Awareness Week, June 5-9, is a time to promote knowledge and understanding of invasive species and the harm they can cause. We want to empower YOU to stop the spread of invasive species!
Learn about the gardeners' role in controlling invasives with Erica LaFountain and Nick Hamilton-Honey of Cornell Cooperative Extension. Erica will answer questions like, "How do you know if a plant is native to the North Country? What are some common garden invasives? What native plants are good alternatives for our landscapes?"
And Nick will answer the question on the tip of everyone's tongue... "What on earth are invasive jumping worms and how do I avoid getting them!?"
CCE and local experts are offering a total of five free classes in Canton and Potsdam to promote knowledge of invasive species, the harm they can cause, and what we can all do to help. PPL and local artist, poet and musician, Andrew Carpino, will be hanging out with books and art for kids (story time, anyone) Saturday, June 10, from 10AM to noon at Ives Park during the Potsdam Pride festival.
Working with Sarah Mae, who will be leading Pride Yoga in the park at 10AM, we will have blankets laid out and a table with art supplies affording families to participate in yoga practice while the kiddos color, listen to stories, or flip through the books on loan from the Potsdam Public Library for the event.

PPL's newest family friendly program, Lego @ PPL, every second Tuesday of the month to build different themed challenges.
A monthly Lego challenge!? Heck yeah! What more do you need to know?
Well, how about this? The challenge is open to 3rd - 6th graders and you will need to call the circulation desk at 315-265-7230 to reserve your spot!
Additionally, we are happily accepting Lego donations to add to the already wonderful collection we are kicking this program off with. While some kids outgrow their Lego, us PPL kids never do! Make us the new home to your old Lego!
We look forward to seeing what you can build!... See MoreSee Less
