The North Country Battle of the Books is a competition similar to whiz quiz games in which teams compete to answer questions based on a set book list. The Battle is open to students in grades 4 to 6.

PPL hosts a local Battle for teams in the Potsdam Central School district. Students form teams of up to 4 members and may be of any combination of 4th-6th graders. With the help of an adult coach, the teams collectively read a chosen list of 16 books, which is released in September. During the competition, the teams are asked questions about the books on the list and respond with the book’s title and author as their answer. The winning team from PPL goes on to a regional competition to face winning teams from other North Country Library System libraries in St. Lawrence, Lewis, and Jefferson counties.
