PPL’s Meet the Author Series with William Romey

The Tonga Letters, a story about the Peace Corps in the South Pacific.

Forty years ago, Dr. W.L. (Bill) Romey had just finished college with a biology degree. While back in Canton with his parents, he was looking for opportunities to make the world a better place. He joined the Peace Corps and was sent to the South Pacific Kingdom of Tonga for two years.

While there, he learned Tongan, taught high school biology, dove on the coral reefs, and tried to blend in. Fast forward, he recently retired from SUNY Potsdam where he was a Biology Professor. He recently published a book titled The Tonga Letters based on his weekly letters home.

On September 16th, he will give a reading from this book and show some Tongan cultural items at the Potsdam Public Library. The book can be purchased on Amazon and some copies will be available at the reading.
