Online Databases

Please call the Potsdam Public Library at (315)265-7230 for your username
and password. This is required in order to access some of the databases.

These databases are provided by the New York State Library's EmpireLink Project through an LSTA grant from the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services, the NCLS central library grant, and the Northern New York Library Network's Regional Bibliographic Database grant.

HeritageQuest Online combines digital, searchable images of U.S. federal census records with the digitized version of the popular UMI® Genealogy & Local History collection and other valuable content. This online database is an essential collection of unique material for both genealogical hobbyists and professionals.

Ebsco Primary Search including the Funk and Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, Watertown Daily Times newspapers, Wilson Web with full text of thousands of leading publications, the Grolier Encyclopedia and more can be found online at the North Country Library System. This is a great source with all of the websites in one place to help you find the information that you need. You log in using your library card number and pin number in the upper right hand corner of this page.

Northern NY Historical Newspapers

The Northern New York Library Network is providing access to a growing database featuring Historical Newspapers from around Northern NY that can be searched online. The newspapers are from several locations through out the seven counties that the Northern NY Library Network covers. You don't need to call the Library for access to this database; a user name and password are not required.

AudioBookCloud: Your Online Audio Library is an online collection of full length audio books with unlimited remote access that you can listen to from any computer with an internet connection. You don't need any special software or listening devices and you can listen to as many books as many times as you like. You can even set a bookmark to resume were you left off. Browse the selection, click listen online and enjoy the story.

TumbleBook Library is an animated talking Picture book collection loaded with sound and music to make learning fun. TumbleBook Library is loaded with features like easy narration, word helper, games and puzzles for everyone to enjoy, no wonder so many schools across North America are using this educational tool.

TumbleBookCloud is an online collection of read-along titles for elementary, middle school, and high school students which features adjustable online text and complete audio narration. Sentences are highlighted as they are being read and the pages turn automatically. The collection features 6 categories: enhanced novels, graphic novels, early readers, chapter books, teen fiction and classics including Shakespeare plays!

Adults looking for employment or a career change. Education Portal, which is a member of the American Library Association, offers videos for adults seeking employment. The videos feature advice from real world career counselors who have volunteered their time to help you find a career. The videos cover how to make a resume', job interviewing and how to utilize job networking to your advantage. If your not sure what to look for try the videos on researching careers.

Online College Database OnlineCollegesDatabase.org strives to provide helpful information about colleges, universities, community colleges and vocational schools at the local city and state level. Their research indicates that prospective students of the internet age desire clear and accurate information, displayed in a friendly and easy to use interface. They have created data sets, graphs, and Google Maps to help achieve this goal.
